Mining

A lot of exploration has been done in Gaza Province relating to mining mineral deposits.  The province has potential in heavy sands, aggregate rock, rhyolite, sand and gravel, diamonds and diatomite. Heavy mineral sands are mined for their titanium and zircon content. Ilmenite and rutile are used to make white pigments for paints, paper, and plastic. Titanium can be extracted from these ores and used to manufacture metallic parts where lightweight and high strength are needed. Zircon is used for abrasive and insulating purposes.

Agriculture

The province of Gaza can be divided into two zones, defined mainly by climate: the productive coastal zone and the arid zone . The productive coastal zone (Bilene-Macia, Xai-Xai, Majacaze, Chokwé, Guija and Chibuto) has relatively fertile soils and a climate favourable to agricultural production. The arid zone (Massagena, Chicualacuala, Chigubo, Mabalane and Massingir) is characterised by poor soils and low and irregular rainfall. The main crops farmed in the fertile zone are maize, rice, sorghum, beans, millet, groundnuts, bananas, cashews and cassava.
